Keeping students safe comes first
How we protect students
Background checks
Every staff member and volunteer completes a criminal background check [and NYS Sex Offender Registry check] before working with students.
Training
Coaches complete orientation on child safety, boundaries, mandated reporting and our code of conduct.
Visible sessions
Sessions take place in public or approved spaces, with other adults nearby. Coaches do not meet students alone behind closed doors.
Online safety
Online sessions use approved accounts and platforms. Coaches do not contact students on personal social media.
Family involvement
Parents and guardians know who their student's coach is and can join, observe or check in at any time.
Code of conduct
Every coach agrees to our code of conduct. We act quickly on any concern, including removing a volunteer from programs.
